About Us

Established in 1953 by John Madden, and formally incorporated as John Madden & Sons Ltd in 1975, our company has grown to become one of the most trusted and experienced tarmacadam surfacing contractors in the West of Ireland. With over seven decades of continuous service, we have built a solid reputation for excellence, reliability, and commitment to quality in every project we undertake.

From our early days specialising in tarmacadam surfacing, we have steadily expanded our services to encompass a comprehensive range of civil engineering and groundworks solutions. Today, our capabilities include:

  • Road construction and surfacing
  • Drainage installation
  • Public lighting and ducting
  • Car parks and access roads
  • All-weather sports pitches
  • Producers and suppliers of all Asphalt and Macadam products
  • Supply and delivery of quarried rock, stone, and aggregate materials

Over the decades, we have had the privilege of contributing to some of the most significant infrastructure and development projects in the West of Ireland - projects that have shaped communities, strengthened regional connectivity, and supported economic growth. Among these proud milestones is our involvement in the paving and surfacing works at Ireland West Airport Knock. This was not only a technically demanding project but also a landmark investment in the future of the West, enabling increased travel, tourism, and business opportunities for generations to come. Being part of a development of such scale and regional importance stands as a testament to the trust placed in our expertise and our ability to deliver under the highest standards of quality and safety.

Another cornerstone in our company’s history is our work on the Galway Clinic - now one of Ireland’s leading private hospitals. From early-stage groundworks to the delivery of high-quality surfacing and civil engineering solutions, our team played a key role in helping shape a healthcare facility that has since become central to medical excellence in the region. Our contribution to a project of such high public value remains a point of pride within our company, reflecting our long-standing commitment to supporting essential community and commercial infrastructure.

These projects, along with many others completed over more than seventy years, form an important part of the John Madden & Sons legacy. They highlight our dedication to craftsmanship, our capacity to take on major developments, and our continued role in building and improving the infrastructure of the West of Ireland. As we look to the future, these achievements inspire us to further strengthen the reputation for reliability, professionalism, and quality that has defined our company since 1953.
